Future of Nava Yoga

March 16, 2021 Update: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Nava Yoga remains closed until further notice. Thanks so much for your patience!

Dear Nava Community,

Thank you so much to those who completed our survey about possible class offerings this fall. It’s been a wild ride for (all of) us since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, to say the least. We’ve carefully considered your responses with much reflection and discussion on how best we might continue to serve you, our community, and ourselves in a safe and supportive manner.

For almost 8 years the Nava Yoga space has brought us together in meaningful ways to reconnect with ourselves, strengthen our relationships with each other, and establish new friendships. It has been magical, and we are so very grateful for your support over the years. At this time, however, we feel to pause formal yoga offerings, both in-person and online, so that we might reinvent ourselves in the context of an enduring pandemic and shifting priorities. This renewal will hopefully result in a new space, too, one that can accommodate more practitioners and continue to serve as a dedicated yoga shala.

In his book “Reaching Out”, Henri J. M. Nouwen describes the paradox of hospitality—”that it wants to create emptiness, not a fearful emptiness, but a friendly emptiness where strangers can enter and discover themselves as created free; free to sing their own songs, speak their own languages, dance their own dances; free also to leave and follow their own vocations. Hospitality is not a subtle invitation to adopt the life style of the host, but the gift of a chance for the guest to find his own.” It is in this spirit we hope that a reinvented Nava Yoga might blossom and continue to support us all.

Until then, much love from all of us.
Nava Yoga, October 8, 2020

******************************************

Dear Nava Community,
We hope this finds you well and happy as we begin the transition to another September. We’ve been earnestly considering how Nava Yoga might transition with you during the Covid-19 reality that we’re continuing to adjust to, and we would really appreciate your candid feedback. Without question, your participation (or lack thereof) will directly affect the future of Nava Yoga.

A few of our teachers are considering offering some very small classes this Fall/Winter and we want to gauge your interest in returning to the studio to take in-person classes and/or online classes with us. If there is sufficient interest, we may run a 10-week class program from October to the beginning of December. Greg is considering offering one class, Sarah is considering offering a Vinyasa or Yin class, and Nancy is considering offering a Yoga For Runner’s class. Leanne and Julie are still deciding their next steps. To ensure safe physical distancing, the yoga space can accommodate 3 students per class.

Covid-19 Operational Plan:
So far, we have a COVID-19 operational plan that involves disinfecting the studio after each use—concentrating especially on high-touch areas like door and sink handles—and asking students to wash their hands as soon as they reach the 3rd floor. Hand sanitizer is in the studio and is also available immediately on entering the building. We would require that students maintain the 2 metre distancing required by public health and that each student bring their own yoga mats to class. If you need to use one of our mats, we will put it aside for you, labeled with your name, so that no mat is used by more than one student. Likewise, props like blocks and straps will be designated to specific individuals for exclusive use during the 10-week class program.

This is a time of new beginnings and transitions for everyone, and in the interest of going with the flow, we recognize that perhaps we will not be able to continue running our sweet little yoga studio in the New Year. We know that you value the Nava Yoga space, and we do too, which is why we’ve kept the space afloat for the past six months without income, waiting and wondering if/how/when we would be able to re-open safely.
We’ve created a short survey about to gauge your interest in participating in yoga with us once more. A link to the survey can be found below, and we would really appreciate your honest feedback! If you know that you are not comfortable coming back to class, please let us know, and if you are willing to commit to a 10-week class program, please let us know that too—when you would like to have a class, what time and day of the week would work for you. and what style of yoga you would like to practice.

Please complete our survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M88S9KJ

We would appreciate your feedback by September 14th so that we can make decisions about offering a Fall schedule and about continuing to rent the Nava Yoga space.
Thank you in advance.
Love and light from the Nava Team.
